![]() ![]() Some of this hostility is being driven by the perceived threat from Islamic terrorism and the Islamisation of Western culture. Religion is said to be their antithesis, the source instead of superstitious mumbo-jumbo, oppression and backward-thinking. These are said to be essential for progress, a civilised society and the betterment of humanity. We are living in an era which extols reason, science and human rights. My argument is a development of ideas I first explored in my 2012 book The World Turned Upside Down: The Global Battle over God, Truth and Power. The only way to defend Western civilisation is to reaffirm and restore its Biblical foundations. By attacking these Biblical foundations in the name of reason and human rights, the culture warriors of secularism are sawing off the branch on which they sit. War is being waged against Western culture from within which is in essence a war against Christianity and its moral origins in the Hebrew Bible. As for the scientific revolution that developed within Western culture (albeit with much borrowed from outside Europe), math doesn’t care what color someone is. Later philosophical developments in Europe, such as the philosophies of the Enlightenment, likewise tend to be too universal for white supremacists seeking a tribal identity. It is either too universal (addressing the human condition in general) or too local-none of us live as citizens of an ancient Greek polis. Greek philosophy is likewise ill-suited to serve as a basis for white identity. Christianity has never been defined by race, and locally-grown racist heresies are only sustainable among those ignorant of Christianity’s teachings, origins and history. For centuries after its founding, Christianity’s center was the Mediterranean world, including Asia Minor and North Africa. The tensions, agreements, developments and settlements between these have shaped the Western world, and these roots of Western civilization are not congenial to white supremacy.Ĭhristianity is universal in its message and Jewish in its origins. Christian religion and Greek philosophy, filtered through Roman law and culture, are the foundation of European culture. It is Jerusalem and Athens, in one famous formulation. The unifying heritage of Europe is religious and philosophical. Still, is there something to it? Is there a common heritage that will cover El Greco and Hume and Dostoyevsky? Is there one that can include the Jacobites and the Jacobins? There is, but it is not racial, and white supremacists reject it because it rejects them. There’s No Common Cultural Legacy For The Alt-Right The question becomes who will she endorse. Look to Bachmann to exit stage left after Iowa. When you have to keep insisting that you aren’t dropping out-it may be time to drop out. She herself has said that it would take nothing less than a “ miracle” to win. The Bachmann team is simply imploding with the defection of a top aide to the Ron Paul camp. Vander Plaats asked Bachmann to drop out and endorse one of the social conservatives. The endorsements may have been just enough to push Santorum up in the polls-at Bachmann’s expense. In 2008, sixty percent of the participants in the Iowa caucuses were evangelical.Įight days ago Rick Santorum won the personal endorsements of two evangelical leaders-Bob Vander Plaats, CEO of the Family Leader, and Chuck Hurley, President of the Iowa Family Policy Center. Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann, and Rick Santorum are all making a play for the social conservatives they need to propel them onward. Part of the problem is that three candidates are running for evangelical support but Iowa simply isn’t big enough for the three of them. If they could unite behind a candidate, they could defeat Mitt Romney and Ron Paul in the Iowa caucuses, but they can’t. ![]() KGSĮvangelicals are in a civil war in Iowa. Michelle Bachmann, as much as I like her, needs to step aside and throw her weight fully behind Rick Santorum, and if Rick eventually fails, then the both of them should back Newt to the hilt. Look to Iowa to show you what will happen if any of the Republicans run a “third party” ticket, disaster, when the top spot is just ripe for the picking by any true conservative candidate. Iowa is more important than some believe. ![]()
